Council Meeting Minutes
October 18, 2004

Present : Doug Marlatt, Jacki Blunn, Lisa Buesnel, Kathy Evans, Beth Hall, John Kyle, Dianne Thompson, Isabella Beattie

1. Beth welcomed everyone to the meeting.

2. Principal’s Report:

 

a) update re grade 1; new 0.5 teacher has been hired to cover 600 minutes of Language Arts; class split into two classes of 15 for half of day; 70 minutes of Math is being team taught; an E.A. is in the class for the entire afternoon
b) we have been granted a .5 literacy/numeracy teacher as a result of the Learning Opportunities Grant; this teacher will work with targeted students from the early years and primary grades
c) in February, a Team Read teacher will be assigned to the school as well
d) as a result of an injury while students were skating at the arena, all students are strongly encouraged to wear a helmet
e) more volunteers are needed to help with skating; especially in the primary grades

f)
the Minister of Education is mandating that only healthy foods be sold in elementary school vending machines
g)
the flower bulb fundraiser brought in only $2000 in profits; monies will be used to defray the cost of graduation; monies to defray the cost of fieldtrips will come from the sale of chips, hot dogs, milk and drinks from the vending machine
h)
the school website is up and running

3. Bussing- concern expressed whether fieldtrips and sports are in jeopardy due to changes in bussing; time is needed to iron out these concerns
4. Grade 8 Fieldtrip-will be discussed after Christmas
5. Home & School- will sell poinsettas as a Christmas fundraiser

6. Other Business- possibility of students going to local curling club for lessons; Doug will investigate
